Often we can have most of the ducks aligned. We have laid out most of the roadmap to move closer to where we know we should be – whether that’s a new job, a new relationships, leaving a job or relationship, developing new bonds with family and friends, taking on a new hobby, or starting a new business.
We know, like we know, like we know that the move is right.
Yet we do nothing.
This is when you know that fear has you in its grasp. And it can be a stranglehold of a grasp.
We are all ready to make the move, we’ve talked about it, we’ve planned it, and yet we find ourselves paralyzed.
This is because often we have built up the fear to an insurmountable level. We shut down thinking there is no way we can conquer it.
We even start making up great reasons why we shouldn’t go yet, or at this time, or perhaps we’ll go after we review things, reassess, or tweak. And what happens? We never move.
We have allowed fear to take our dreams away.
Now I am not saying we should never feel fear. I believe that if we are really scared, then chances are really good we are on the right track! The trick is to keep fear in its place.
Here are some tips that might help keep fear in check:
- Write down the fear. Getting it out of our heads and onto paper relegates the fear to its actual size – small. When it is on our heads it has a tendency to grow to irrational proportions.
- Write a pros and cons list. Often you will find that there are few cons to many pros. And it’s easier to see this when it is in black and white.
- Create affirmations and carry them with you so when you begin to feel the swell of fear, you can regain balance.
And let me know if fear has stopped you from moving forward in the comments below. Or better yet, watch the video and let me know about how you plan to conquer fear!

These are great tips for overcoming fear. I think writing it down is the first step in overcoming your fears. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you Christy! Getting stuff into black and write makes things clearer. It’s easier to develop a game plan to tackle and it also is often not as “bad” as we initially think it is! 🙂
