Do you have a burning desire or goal that you really want to reach? Does this goal stir fear and excitement in your soul (a great sign by the way that you are on the right track!)
Now I know we are taught to be prepared for the worst, but hear me out. It is no secret that I subscribe to the Law of Attraction. This concept in a quick nutshell is that like attracts like. So if I am thinking good thoughts and doing good things, more good thoughts and good things come my way. In turn, if I think thoughts about bad things (fear, failure, “the worst”) then more of those types of things will come my way.
Think about this – have you ever had days when everything is going right? You wake up before your alarm, you feel rested, you find a cute outfit to wear, you are having a great hair day, traffic is unusually light, clients are happy when they call you…. everything just seems to work. Your mojo is positive and the more positive you are the more positive you attract to you.
This can certainly work in the opposite fashion as well. You wake up late, there’s no hot water for your shower, you get stuck in a massive traffic jam, you realize you are wearing two different colored socks, you spill coffee on the paperwork on your desk … then you ask yourself “Can things get any worse?” and what happens? They do!
Ok – back to my post topic.
Are you playing it secretly too safe?
Too often we place safety nets to our dreams, desires and goals. Have you ever caught yourself saying something along the lines of “in the worst case scenario”, or “well, if all else fails”. Remember that like attracts like. You, even subconsciously, have placed a safety net to your goals. You have attracted an easy way out. Your brain sees no need to drive to results of Plan A – because you have a Plan B. Success of the mission is no longer critical. It falls into a ‘would be nice to have’ category. Because “if all else fails” you have Plan B.
My suggestion? Strike Plan B. Live as if there is no Plan B. You have a big goal or desire? Then you work toward the result of THAT goal. Make that goal the only thing in your sites. Success at that goal is mission critical and failure is NOT an option.
Here are a few tips to begin playing all out:
- Strike the everyday sayings that may have crept in your vocabulary, because they have also crept into your subconscious. No longer say things such as “in the worst case scenario”, or “well, if all else fails”, or “there’s always Plan B.”
- Get an accountability partner. Rely on a trusted friend, colleague or family member to hold your feet to the fire and encourage you to fight for your dream.
- Put a rubber band around your wrist and each time you hear yourself using “Plan B Language” snap the rubber band. While this isn’t the most painful thing in the world it is annoying enough to bring your attention into changing the behavior. Trust me!
- Create or join a mastermind group. These are groups of like-minded people that support, encourage and help each other. This is also a great group to lean on when the going gets tough. Remember they are like-minded. They get it. And they will be there for you to help you over the obstacles.
- Journal. Take time to write down your fears and anxieties. Don’t ignore them. Feel them, but don’t let them rule you. See my earlier blog post for help on using the Sedona Method for releasing. You can also write an entry about your fears and burn the entry. There is something cathartic about watching the paper burn. It creates a more indelible psychological imprint enabling a more full release of the emotions and the ideas attached to those emotions.
Scared yet?
Does the thought of no Plan B scare you? Good! Remember that working toward big goals is scary. We are after a big payoff, so it necessitates big work. It requires you to put everything on the line. You dedicate yourself 100% to success. There is no other choice!
Does this mean it will be easy? Sorry! Does this mean success will happen overnight? Nope. Will you have to still pay attention, watch results and tweak as needed? More than ever!
But you will be working toward aligning yourself with the life you are meant to live. You are planting the seed and tirelessly working the crop of your life. Isn’t that worth your full attention?
It is too easy to let go when the going gets tough if we know we have a Plan B. Don’t cop out! Live your potential and live as if there is no Plan B!

LOVE IT!
Great advise and lots of reasons why it is!
Thank you Jodi!
Lynn, that was an excellent article. I also agree adhere to the law of attraction and very carefully watch my words. It takes practice, but once you do it and catch yourself it starts changing your thoughts, words and actions. Then you find yourself out of that habit. I definitely like your idea of just scratching plan B. Makes complete and total sense. Thanks again for the thoughts.
Thank you Julie! The change in behavior can be so tough. I have actually used the rubber band idea to curb some bad habits I have had. (It is surprisingly effective! Snapping that band gets old after awhile! Hehe.) We often never really see how we can sabotage ourselves with the words we use.
Good entry! The thought of not having another plan is scary, but then you will give more effort and focus on the things you truly want. I am working towards that too. (PS found your blog through the Ultimate Blog Challenge).
Very true Sara! That escape hatch undermines our resolve!
