Do you ever dread running into someone? You just know the meet up will go terribly wrong. Or have you dreaded going in to a meeting with someone? You just know it’s not going to end well. Or have you ever tried to avoid a conversation with someone? You just know it’s going to end up in an argument!

Guess what. You’re right! What Ideas Are You Putting in Your Head?

Most often people build dread and fear about a situation. They begin having thoughts, or pre-conceived notions, of how the conversation will go. And usually these conversations are negative. The words reiterated are ones like “I just know that it is not going to go well.”, “I bet they’re going to say ‘this’ and make it difficult.”, or “I am not looking forward to this.”

The thing is that these ideas are only projected in YOUR head. It is just pictures in the mind presupposing results. And if thoughts are always revolving around negativity it really can’t be any surprise that things turn out badly.

If every expectation is negative, it becomes a self-fulfilled prophecy! It’s going to go badly, it’s going to go badly, it’s going to go badly – and then bam! It goes badly.

So let’s build something different. Let’s create a different scenario to review in our heads. By creating positive mental images of the upcoming situation, we can reset our mind, and our results.

Try these for the turn around:

If you find yourself playing the “What If” game, make sure the “What If’s” are positive. If you are going to spend the time thinking about the situation, spend the energy and effort on positive outcomes. Do everything you can to create outcomes that will affirm your goals.

A thing to remember is that the adage “Build it and they will come” is more accurate than you might think. It also isn’t “Build it and they will come… only if it’s positive.”

If you build an image and scenario of negativity – it will come to pass. But if you build it as positive – that will come to pass. You hold the power of the result in your hands (and mind!). Take the control you have inside yourself and create positive outcomes!

  1. I like to keep it “open” and also use the phrase to “expect nothing.” I don’t want to get hyped that something good or bad is going to happen. I’m open for anything. I’m not expecting a certain outcome because I’m being open to the moment. I love affirmations, I do! Thanks for sharing another opinion that is different than my own!

  2. The power of positive thoughts and words. Most people do not realize that their words hold a lot of power. I love writing affirmations and dreaming of where I want my business to be.
